ACT Test Prep Class


Dates: January 10-March 1 (8 weeks)
Time: 3:00-4:00 p.m., Tuesday and/or Thursday

Teachers: Ms. Scott (English) and Ms. Murrell (Math)

Price: $95.00 check or cash for both sections or $65.00 for 1 (includes curriculum)

Registration: Beginning November 29 in main office, 4:00-7:30 p.m.
continuing Monday-Thursdays through January 5
(Offices are closed December 16-January 2)

Maximum enrollment: 20 students

It's Her Business

Girls!!

Guidance is looking for 5 girls that are interested in attending the 7th Annual Teen Entrepreneurship Conference "It's HER Business".

University of North Florida, University Center


Cost: FREE (Breakfast, Lunch, and Materials provided)


· Must be 15-18 years of age and enrolled in a Duval County High School to attend.

Students are responsible for their own transportation to and from UNF.

The It’s HER Business Teen Entrepreneurship Conference is a one-day conference for girls ages 15-18 enrolled in high school.


It is designed to encourage financial literacy and help girls learn about starting businesses and managing personal finances through interactive games and hands-on activities.

We use successful local business women as conference facilitators/mentors to share their ideas and experiences with the participants.

This event brings parents, students, school administration, and women business owners together in one forum and has so far exposed over 600 young women to a whole new world of opportunities.

Take Stock in Children

If you are currently in 9th or 10th grade, on free/reduced lunch, and have 2.5 gpa PLEASE see Mrs. Sasan about a mentoring program that you could be eligible. 

Take Stock in Children is a wonderful organization that pairs you up with a mentor.  Your only resposibility is to attend school, keep up your grades and meet with them weekly here on campus.  Full details are on the application which you will pick up from Mrs. Sasan.

Lower Division:
Mrs. Dunkley and Mrs. Sasan are currently meeting with students who made F's on their report cards. 

Upper Division:
Mrs. McWilliams and Mrs. Kirkland are meeting with all of the juniors.  Guess what they're talking about.  Credits, Bright Futures, and planning for college

Food Drive!

Students- don't forget that Interact is holding a food drive that benefits BEAM.  Bright your canned food and non-perishable food items to your 7th period class. 

KFC Scholarship

The Award


The Scholarship offered by the KFC Colonel's Scholars Program provides funding for:
Tuition, Fees, Books, Room and Board!!

Awards can be up to $5,000 per year. The scholar could receive up to $20,000 over four years to help complete a bachelor's degree.

Eligibility

To be eligible to compete for the KFC Colonel's Scholars Scholarship, an individual must:
Graduate from high school this academic year (between 12/1/11 and 8/31/12)
Earn a minimum cumulative high school GPA of 2.75
Plan to pursue a bachelor's degree at a public, in-state college or university (start date no later than 9/30/12)
Be a US citizen or permanent resident
Demonstrate financial need


Scholars may begin their college career by entering into either a 2-or 4-year accredited in-state college/university, as long as they stay on track to complete a bachelor's degree program.

Scholarship Timeline:
Application process opens the first day of December
Application process closes the middle of February
Semifinalists are asked to provide additional documentation in March
Selected scholars are notified in May

Dignity U Wear

Calling all students who are home for the holidays! We have an excellent opportunity for you to earn volunteer hours during your holiday break. We need high school and college students during the week of December 26th - 30th to help us sort clothing. We have two 3-and-a-half hour shifts each day, one at 8:30am-12:00pm and another at 12:30pm-4:00pm. Free lunch at noon and cool raffle prizes throughout the day!



Dignity U Wear by providing brand new clothing. Your volunteer support is critical to our success. This is a great opportunity for groups of friends, youth groups, or school clubs. We hope you choose Dignity U Wear this holiday season to donate your time and earn volunteer hours.

EDU, Inc. Common Black College Application

The 2011-2012 EDU, Inc. Common Black College Application is now available for students to submit online. The EDU, Inc. Application allows students to apply to 35 HBCUs at the same time for only $35. The EDU, Inc. Application increases students educational options by allowing them to receive acceptance letters, financial aid packages and scholarship offers from several different colleges.

Sweater Drive

The PTSA is joining forces with WJCT and Vystar to gather sweaters for individuals in need.  Please help this cause by donating your sweaters that you no longer need.  There will be a collection bin in the main office area.  The drive will last from November 1st through November 30th.

Essay Contest

The Amity Turkish Cultural Center is having an essay contest with the theme of : One Billion Hungry in the World. What's Your Role? 

Prizes include a trip to Turkey, and gift cards.  Complete the essay and submit it directly on their website.
